On a crisp, windy day in February this darling baby girl joined her family forever. Of course in their hearts she’s always been theirs – Since the day they knew she would be born, on the day they met her in the hospital, on the day they brought her to their home and in the days following as they introduced her to all the friends and family who had been loving and praying for her for months and months. But on this day, the law recognized it too.
I arrived at Tony and Kelly’s home a few minutes before we all departed together for the family courthouse. The courtroom was filled with family members, eager to witness and ready to show their love and support.
After testimonies had been shared, the judge smiled, and declared resolutely that in the eyes of the law it was now as if Ada had always been a part of this family. My eyes filled with tears.
Adoption is a beautiful thing.
For me, this is what it’s all about. We get a tiny glimpse of God’s great love when families welcome a child that had at first been a stranger, then quickly becomes the greatest of treasures.
